24 June 2011 A child infected with E.coli four years, admitted to intensive care in Belgium
A child of four years is hospitalized in intensive care at Verviers, in eastern Belgium, due to infection with the bacterium E. coli, according to the Belgian authorities.
E. coli bacteria that infected the child is not the same strain that has killed 38 people in Germany, the minister of Health of Wallonia-Brussels region, Fadila Laanan.
The bacterium is responsible for children hospitalized type E157 annually recorded 50 infections of this kind in Belgium.
Experts try to determine the origin of infection. The child became ill after eating a hamburger, but experts analyze all the tracks.
