An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 was felt in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in eastern Uzbekistan and southern Kyrgyzstan, causing panic among the population of Ferghana valley.
Seismology services in the two countries could not be contacted during the night, and authorities have not released any information on damage or casualties.
Epicenter produced at 01.35 local (22.35, GMT), was located 42 kilometers from Ferghana, a city with 200,000 inhabitants located in Uzbekistan, the United States Geological Survey Institute said, adding that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 9.2 kilometers.
Eyewitnesses said that the earthquake lasted about 40 seconds, and local residents panicked and took to the streets.
