ARCA presented to NASA IAR-111 program, designed for Google Lunar X Prize competition

Cosmonautics and Aeronautics Romanian Association (ARCA) has presented the program IAR-111, a device designed to launch space rocket Haas II for Google Lunar X Prize competition at the NASA Ames Research Center (USA), according to a press release AFP.

ARCA part, from July 10 to 13, the Google Lunar X PRIZE Summit, held at NASA Ames Research Center and the Seti Institute in San Francisco.

In this summit, ARCA presented IAR-111 program for $ 30 million competition Google Lunar X Prize. Romania's team was able to talk to the engineers at NASA Ames Research Center about aircraft and spaceship models tested in wind tunnels and the protection of the re-entry into Earth's atmosphere astronavelor.

"It was an opportunity for us to see at NASA Ames for aerospace legendary places, places that were tested during the time most American experimental aircraft and cabins that have carried Apollo astronauts to the moon and American spacecraft. There are places the history overwhelms you everywhere and is extremely close to relive the live experiments that have learned from research papers published by NASA. A truly overwhelming experience, "said Dumitru Popescu, ARCA president.

According to the release, an impressive moment was when three Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station came into contact with summit participants and expressed their thoughts about the importance of competition and the opening of a new era in private exploration of the cosmos.

However, ARCA went to Google headquarters, where they discussed strategies for competition, as well as better promotion of ARCA team using Internet technology company.

ARCA representatives told AFP that the participants in the Google Lunar X Prize competition to attend the annual summit and to collaborate with NASA on certain segments of the projects developed under this competition. They said that details of the collaboration between ARCA and NASA can not be made public at this time.

ARCA announced on July 5, through a press release, the completed structure IAR-111 supersonic aircraft cabin Excelsior, a device designed to launch space rocket Haas II for Google Lunar X Prize competition and development of space tourism.

Airplane cabin is made of composite materials, weighs 500 pounds fully equipped for flight and receives a two-person crew - pilot and navigator, arranged in tandem.

The pilot, seated in the front seat cabin, will have a center console which includes analog and GPS navigation equipment, a widescreen HDTV system to assist take off and landing, and radio equipment will be located on the sides. Cupra will be equipped with controls needed to handle the aircraft.

Navigator seated behind the pilot will have on the center console of an integrated monitoring operating parameters of the aircraft, radio communication system, GPS navigation system, a system for monitoring aircraft SDTV and passive radar screen. Cabin is ejected when necessary and is equipped with two missile engine powered parachutes.

ARCA will perform during the July-August mission in June, testing the flight cabin IAR-111, as representatives of the Association told AFP. "The exact date depends on when they give approval authorities for testing. Mission 6 is testing the flight cabin. It will be thrown from a helicopter to test the acceleration and the parachute recovery system. To see if this system is operational It is powered by two missiles. It aims primarily safe recovery of the car. It is a simple test, "explained representatives of ARCA. They have not revealed where the flight will be testing the IAR-111 cab.

IAR-111 supersonic plane Excelsior is made exclusively with private sources. ARCA decided not to report the value of the program yet.

First flight of supersonic aircraft is scheduled for autumn 2012.

Cosmonautics and Aeronautics Romanian Association (ARCA) is an NGO that wants to win Google Lunar X Prize competition and to launch the first space rocket capable of carrying a Romanian cosmonaut.

ARCA announced on December 22, 2010, in a press conference, a program that worked in secret last year, aimed at achieving the first Romanian high-altitude supersonic plane that will launch rocket Haas II, the Google Lunar X Prize competition.

The aircraft was designed to replace the bearing balloons used so far ARCA necessary transport rocket vehicles above the atmosphere. Carrying balloons were a cheap and quick solution, but also showed the limits, the main cause for two successive delays launch of space rocket Helen.

Among the programs developed at ARCA Demonstrator 2B rocket and are equipped with the world's first engine, composite materials, reusable, which was launched successfully on 9 September 2004, the Black Sea coast, the system has executed Stabilo two flights so far, a mission launched to an altitude of 14,700 m in the stratosphere, and 2 mission launched in 2007 at an altitude of 12,000 feet above the Black Sea.

However, ARCA launched on October 1, 2010, the first Romanian space rocket, Helen 2, the Black Sea, thus making the first flight of the Google Lunar X Prize competition, which aims at sending a robot on the lunar surface by a private organization. Helen suborbital rocket technology is demonstrated for Google Lunar X Prize competition. Helen's flight test was postponed twice in 2009 (Mission 3) and 2010 (Mission 4) because of difficulties in launching the ball carrier. To test the avionics Helen, ARCA released from Sânpetru in early 2010, the mission five. Successful launch of first space rocket Romanian, Helen 2, Mission 4 B, was held on October 1, 2010, off the Black Sea and reached an altitude of 40,000 feet.
