Tropical Storm Arlene in Mexico: 11 dead and 300,000 homeless

Tropical Storm Arlene has killed at least 11 people and left another 300,000 homeless, Mexican authorities announced Saturday.

Storm, most important of the season in the Atlantic, crossed the eastern and central regions Thursday, with gusts of violent wind that caused landslides.

Most of Mexico has been crossed by violent gusts of wind, especially the capital and surroundings and spa Acapulco on the Pacific coast.

Mexican meteorological service said that at least 12 central and northern regions of the country are on alert due to "torrential rains and occasionally violent" after passing storm Arlene, who has dropped in intensity.

About 278,000 were left homeless or were affected by tropical storm passage, according to provisional reports.

In 2010, Mexico has known, according to the Government, the worst rainy season, with 125 deaths, nearly one million flood victims and losses of four billion dollars.
