The European Commission has canceled the alert on Spanish cucumbers

The European Commission announced Wednesday that it canceled the warning launched against bio Spanish cucumbers, suspected to have caused a potentially deadly bacteria E. coli contamination.

"The latest tests carried out in Spain and Germany on cucumbers produced in Spain have revealed the presence of the bacterium E. coli strain 0104 and annulled the Commission therefore launched at European level alert," the EC said in a statement.

The Commission informed all Member States of this decision, made public in Madrid, Ministry of Health immediately.

The decision is "an important step towards a return to normal as quickly as possible to the Spanish agricultural sector", said the ministry.

European Commissioner for Health, John Dalli, faction pushed Germany to increase efforts to identify the source of the contamination at the origin of a serious health crisis in the European Union and a fruit and vegetable market crash.

"The focus is limited to the Hamburg epidemic," said the Commissioner.

The bacteria E. coli 0104, because of problems caused the deaths of nine people in Germany and one in Sweden, he said, citing an assessment released Tuesday by the EC, based on data provided by Member States.
