Online gaming enthusiasts, consulted by Pentagon in maritime safety. U.S. Navy will use the expertise of thousands of online gaming enthusiasts to identify safety risks at sea, writes the Washington Post online edition. The Pentagon has initiated a project that requires consultation with government experts and civilians in connection with maritime safety risks.
Through video and network simulators such as Twitter and Facebook, online gaming enthusiasts will make a series of scenarios about the geopolitical risks such as maritime piracy.
"The challenge is always to have an audience with diverse backgrounds, in order to focus on creativity, " explains one expert, Lawrence Schuette.
Over 7,000 people have signed up to participate in this project worth 450,000 dollars.
