So are on the Thieves Island and you get the quest where you kill the Gnome Eater? Have you tried a lot of ways but this gnome eater steals your guns? Sword or the Shotgun?

Well you can kill with a very simple trick without consume anything from your Health. How? go to him and when you see an attack you right? Now run toward the gnome village and at one time he was stuck between trees and then kills him.

I personally spent 35 shotgun bullets. To mention that I used Cursed Doll but need not help much.
